Montevideo, the Capital of Uruguay, contains some interesting characteristics which make it be very attractive to visitors. To start with, Montevideo is Uruguay's main city according to the great amount of people who lives in it. Actually, 1.4 million people, lives in Montevideo, while the total of Uruguay's population is of about 3.5 million, and therefore it is very peculiar the way in which the capital concentrates this really high percentage of the country's population.
This capital concentrates an important amount of the country's main attractions, although there is a great amount of other very interesting places and attractions for visitors to meet in the rest of the country as well. Montevideo allows visitors to meet some of the typical Uruguayan culture aspects, although there are some aspects which particularly belong to the city lifestyle as the country side has some other characteristics of its own as well, but all of them somehow shared by all the Uruguayans.

One of the main characteristics of Montevideo, Uruguay, is its coastline. Montevideo has a long coastline, full of beaches, which gives the city a beautiful and special personality. Along this coastline, locally known as "la rambla", most of the times there are a lot of Uruguayans walking or sitting in front of the beach while drinking "mate", one of the most characteristics elements of the Uruguayan culture.
There are several other interesting places and attractions to visit in Montevideo, Uruguay. Among these attractions, we can name its local ferias. There are different food and clothes ferias which open about once a week at many Montevideo's neighborhoods which are very characteristic to this city’s culture. Besides this, Montevideo also offers several other interesting places to meet among which there are parks, squares, and many historic buildings.

Montevideo's weather is similar to the rest of Uruguay; it averagely ranges between 13ºC and 5ºC in winter and between 30ºC and 20ºC in summer. During summer time, from December to March, there might be temperatures higher than 30ºC during day while nights are of a very nice and enjoyable climate, which makes it ideal to be outdoors or at the "rambla".
