Origins of the dance

The origins of tango dance are not completely clear: there are different theories which vary. According to some theories, tango dance was originated in Argentina as a result of a combination of dance styles brought by French, Spanish and Italian immigrants. According to other theories, tango derivates from African dance styles.

Although there is not complete certainty on exactly how this dance style was originated, it is known that it first started being practiced in Argentina and Uruguay, in the region of the Rio de la Plata, towards endings of the 19th century.

Tango history in the world

Tango dance soon became renown throughout the rest of the world after beginnings of the 20th century, when musicians and dancers from the Rio de la Plata brought it to Europe. This dance style and its music became very popular in many European capitals and other cities.
